Commissioner’s office hails Newry U3A artist

Eddie Lynch, Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland (COPNI) has congratulated Newry U3A member Mary Gallagher after her design was chosen as part of COPNI's Christmas Card competition.

Mary was one of many people who responded to the call for older artists across Northern Ireland to submit designs for COPNI's annual Christmas card which was distributed to hundreds of people across Northern Ireland. Many excellent pieces of art were submitted and the decision to choose just one was difficult.

Eddie Lynch, The Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland said: "Older people make many vibrant, positive contributions to all aspects of society including the arts. This is why it's so important to celebrate the work of local, older artists.

"I would like to thank all those who took the time to send in a design, and congratulate Mary Gallagher on the beautiful piece of art which was chosen to be turned into my Christmas card. The doe-a-deer design was beautiful."

Mary Cunningham, Chair of U3A Newry said: 'I am delighted that a member of our U3A in Newry has been chosen as the winner of the Commissioner's competition. In Newry U3A we have lots of talented members interested in art and I am very pleased that Mary's work has been showcased in this way.'
